Honor Oak lodge had a great afternoon yesterday (3rd December). We held our annual Christmas party where children and families from Step and Learn were our guests, including the two children we sponsor.
Our Wigmore hall was full to the point of overflowing as almost 120 people sat down for a four course Christmas dinner after making use of the bar. We entertained them with a few songs as they ate, and the children joined in with the music making.
When they’d finished dinner we drew the raffle. It raised an amazing £1,235, which we bumped up to £1,500. This was increased further by our friends at Lloyd’s Bank to make a staggering £2,500!
Medway Brass then led the carols, followed by total audience participation in the 12 days of Christmas. After that, all the children had a private audience with Father Christmas in his grotto where they each received a present.
In an emotional speech, Step and Learn chairman Patrick Barden thanked everyone for coming. He said, “Without your support, we couldn’t support physically disabled children in Kent. Thank you Honor Oak for your continued support, it’s very much appreciated. I hope you all have a very happy Christmas.”
We’ve been holding this party for Step and Learn for 10 years now and it just gets better and better. Long may it continue.
