Membership Officer

“Hi,

It was a friend at Medway Rugby Club that first approached me about becoming a Freemason.  After spending a year changing the subject every time it was brought up, I eventually said that I might be interested.

Once I’d been interviewed and accepted, I had to wait another year until eventually I was initiated into Honor Oak Lodge in May 2007.  I immediately became and active member, and after progressing through the offices, I was installed as Master in March 2013.

During my year as Master, I met many new people as I visited other lodges in Medway while representing Honor Oak.  Many of these people have become lifelong friends and ten years on, that bond has only grown stronger.

Following a year as Immediate Past Master, I was invested as Director of Ceremonies in 2015.  An office which I held for 7 years, during which time I’m proud to say that Honor Oak gained a reputation for excellent ceremonial ritual.

After a year on the back benches, I’m really excited to be taking on the role of Membership Officer in 2023, and hope to be able to emulate the success of my predecessor, Ian Dent.

I was honoured to be appointed Provincial Grand Steward in 2019.  An active office which I held for 3 years and which took me to many lodges across the whole of East Kent while escorting the Provincial Grand Master, his deputy and his assistants.

In 2022 I was promoted to another active office – that of Provincial Grand Pursuivant, and I’m delighted to report that I have been reappointed to that office for 2023.

In 2020 I retired from Medway Council, where I was responsible for Environmental Services.  I now volunteer for a charity called One Big Family, doing food bank deliveries and occasionally working at their soup kitchen.  I also sit on the board of a charity called Step and Learn where I’ve recently introduced a scheme for sponsoring disabled children.

Becoming a Freemason was one the best decisions I ever made.  I’ve made so many friends and met so many people from different walks of life that I wouldn’t have otherwise encountered.  The opportunity to do a bit of good in the world alongside like minded friends is just about as fulfilling as it gets, and I will always be grateful to my proposer, Tony Evernden.

I look forward to supporting Honor Oak Lodge, and the Province of East Kent for many years to come, and I know they’ll both go from strength to strength.
